Our dear friend and former founding Trustee of Reach the Children UK passed away earlier this year. Her love for impoverished children in Uganda and Kenya is illustrated here with her arm around Nora, a grandmother who had many grandchildren.  This was the inspiration for our successful ongoing programme Grandmas Gardens, which provided land, tools, seeds and agronomist help to enable grandmothers, the de facto carers, grow food for their impoverished grandchildren.  Mandy was part of all that went into ensuring the welfare of children was always the focus of Reach the Children and her many friends donated funds to memorialise her work on their behalf. A bench was commissioned in the colours of children’s playground equipment to give grandmothers somewhere to sit and look over the children’s play area. Mandy’s bench has been installed in Grandmas Gardens, Luwero as a fitting memorial to a gifted and loving lady; we know that Mandy would have approved.
