Reach the Children Kenya adopts a world beating phone payment system, M-PESA, to let customers pay for the premium maize flour freshly ground at its new posho mill in Kakamega, Western Kenya. M-PESA is the world’s first mobile money system and is a wholly Kenyan invention. M-PESA is used by 17 m Kenyans, about two thirds of the adult population. Around 25% of Kenya’s gross national product flows through M-PESA. This mobile money system is by far the most successful scheme of its type on earth. Once you have signed up you pay money in to the system by handing cash to one of 40 agents who credits money to your M-PESA account, enabling you to transfer payments by your mobile phone. The M-PESA number is Reach the Children’s account, where you can pay for your flour purchases by your phone.
