Latrines for girls are, we believe, a priority. One quarter of a girl’s schooling is missed due to poor hygiene facilities at school. The first photo was taken of the latrines on an earlier visit to the school. The broken bamboo provides no privacy. The doors to the cubicles are broken or non-existent. The pits for the latrines are full. There are no washing facilities.
As part of the new build, rainwater harvesting gutters were installed together with a large water tank. Reach the Children has installed many handwashing stations alongside the latrines that are now crucial in controlling the spread of disease in rural communities.
As you can see from their dancing, the girls were delighted with their new facilities.
