Florence’s Leaking Roof

It was my last day in Kenya but Suchi, our Kenya Director, said we must visit Florence.  The rain was pouring down when we arrived at her home, the rusting roof was letting the rain pour into the mud house and made rain filled pits in the mud floor.  73 year old Florence is frail, has dementia and needs constant care.  Her family and neighbours do what they can for her but they could not afford a new roof to keep her home dry.  From its emergency fund Reach the Children UK donated $200 to replace the timbers and re clad the roof with new tin sheets, making Florence’s home water tight once more. Her grandson was there on the day, caring for his grandmother who had been the Chairwoman for Reach the Children’s Grandmas Garden programme in Kakamega. Thank you Florence for all you did; we are pleased to help you.  We all appreciate Suchi’s thoughtfulness in caring for a vulnerable, sick grandmother.
